Steamed Red Virginia - Howard's #18
Moisten 2oz Red Virginia ribbon with distilled water so
that it barely sticks together when pinched. Err on the
side of being too dry to avoid excessive steam pressure
when cooking. Pack into half-pint wide mouth mason jar.
Set in crock pot and fill crock pot with water up to 1/4
inch below lit of jar. Cook on low (approx 175F) for 18
hours. Remove jar and allow to cool slightly. Open jar
(expect slight pressure release) and spread contents on
cookie sheet. Allow to air dry for 3-6 hours. Store loosely
in zip lock back for 30 days (lots of air). Smoke alone
or use as mixing component.
